Nostalgia buffs and cinephiles beware: a cult film is about to make a comeback in cinemas, more than 20 years after its release. Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, is back in cinemas across France just before the Paris Olympic Games. The objective? Offering French audiences the chance to revisit one of their most successful films, and tourists the chance to re(discover) this emblem of French cinema.

Remember, in 2001, Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain was released in cinemas and was a huge success, selling over 9 million tickets. This success was also palpable abroad, and helped French cinema shine beyond France’s borders. To the delight of fans of the film starring Audrey Tautou, Jamel Debbouze and Mathieu Kassovitz, UGC has announced a theatrical re-release on July 24!
You’ll be able to immerse yourself in the very special world of the film, right in the heart of Montmartre where Amélie, the young waitress, observes and encounters colorful characters. In any case, UGC’s aim is to “bring out a cult French film during the Olympic Games, so that tourists can enjoy it in our beautiful theaters, and offer great screenings to French people who have never seen the film, or have never seen it in theaters The expected influx of tourists during the Games could therefore fill cinemas in France.
