With over 15 million visitors expected, 10,500 athletes competing and 329 events, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will largely occupy much of your summer. These top athletes are among the best in the world. They do their utmost to make their nation proud and make it shine a little brighter their sport in the eyes of the world.
Medical teleconsultation expert ZAVA conducted a study to determine which Olympic disciplines burn the most calories! The results have been calculated taking into account the average weight of the French population: 79.2 kg average for men and 65.2 kg average for women. And these results may surprise you!
In the top 5, we find sports that are more or less well known to the general public, such as modern Pentathlon, Triathlon, various forms of Cycling and Canoe Slalom.
At the top of the list of Olympic sports that burn the most calories is the modern pentathlon. This very impressive discipline combines, as its name suggests, five very distinct sports: the swimming fencing, horseback riding and running and shooting. For thirty minutes of effort, men burn an average of 1,886 calories compared to 1,507 calories for women.
Number two is triathlon. This legendary Olympic event combines swimming, cycling and running. For thirty minutes of sport, men would burn 1,392 calories and about 1,112 calories for women. Given the 51.5 km covered, it’s not surprising that this event is very energy-intensive.
Finally, in third place, we find the big cycling family with mountain biking, road and track cycling. By pedaling and working on their endurance, athletes burn a lot of calories! 729 calories for half an hour’s cycling for men and 582 calories for women for the same amount of time.
