We’re used to comedy clubs set up in Parisian cellars, intimate venues where comedians perform just a few centimeters from the audience, and even comedy shows paired with wine tastings. But this time, a whole new experience awaits stand-up fans!

On Thursday, November 5, La Scène Barbès, in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, , will host the Mérinos Comedy Club, a show where some audience members will be able to enjoy the sketches while comfortably settled… in a bed. Yes, yes, under the covers!

A comedy club where audience members are invited to get into bed

Forget about uncomfortable chairs and cramped benches: for this rather unique evening, real beds will be set up facing the stage, transforming part of the venue into an impromptu bedroom. It’s a funny idea born out of a collaboration with Mérinos, the bedding brand, which has clearly decided to take the expression “laughing in bed” quite literally.

The event takes place at La Scène Barbès, at 11 rue d’Oran, just a stone’s throw from Boulevard Barbès. In this lively neighborhood of the 18th arrondissement, where outdoor cafés and shops line the streets, it’s hard to imagine that you could come here to lie down and watch a comedy show. And yet!

Please note: the beds won’t replace all the seats in the venue. Only a few audience members will be able to enjoy this setup, while the others will watch the show in a more traditional setting.

Five comedians for an evening all about sleep

And since we don’t do things by halves, five comedians will take the stage one after another with a common theme: sleep. Endless insomnia, difficult mornings, thoughts going round and round in your head at three in the morning… All those little daily struggles that should resonate with quite a few Parisians.

Beyond its quirky appeal, the Mérinos Comedy Club offers, above all, a different way to enjoy stand-up comedy. Here, there’s no need to sit up straight in your chair: the audience is invited to relax, get comfortable, and savor the jokes in a more laid-back atmosphere than that of a traditional comedy club.
