Supermarkets, convenience stores, grocery stores… As youknow, you can use your meal vouchers to pay for part of your groceries. But do you really know which items are eligible when you check out? Can you buy anything? Let’s break it down!
What can you actually buy with meal vouchers at the supermarket?
As you know, meal vouchers are a significant benefit for many people. While most people know there’s a daily limit of 25 euros, let’s face it—it can be a bit confusing to figure out which items are eligible. Especially since each retailer has the right to determine which products can be paid for with your meal voucher card…
Eligible items generally include:
- Deli meats, prepared or processed meats.
- Dairy products such as butter, margarine, yogurt, milk, cream, and cheese
- All fruits and vegetables
- Ready-to-eat meals (salads, deli items, quiches, pizzas, mixed salads, ravioli, cassoulets)
- All canned or jarred products, such as vegetables or sardines
- Pasta, rice, legumes, and other staples
- bread
- chocolate, sugar
- Water, herbal tea, coffee, tea, fruit juice, and all non-alcoholic beverages
Good to know: if your shopping cart contains both items eligible and ineligible for your meal card, the register will automatically separate them. You’ll need to pay for the remaining items using another form of payment. Please note that as of the end of 2027, you will no longer be able to purchase non-perishable food items (such as pasta, rice, and raw meat) with meal vouchers.
