Did you think that greens, slightly bruised vegetables, or dinner leftovers were only good for the trash? On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Communale Saint-Ouen is determined to change your mind. For its second edition, Food Waste Awareness Day transforms the Grande Halle into a true anti-food-waste market in Saint-Ouen. On the agenda: workshops, chef demonstrations, tastings, and meet-and-greets to learn how to give food a second life. Good news—the event is free and open to the public.
A food market that teaches us how to cook with the food we usually throw away
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Communale is hosting a program designed to make the fight against food waste much more tangible. No talk of statistics or environmental debates here. Here, it’s all about cooking
Throughout the day, anti-waste workshops will teach you how to transform leftovers, greens, and even fruits and vegetables deemed unfit for consumption into new dishes. At the same time, you can explore booths dedicated to sustainable food, attend tastings, and participate in discussions. Activities for children will also be available.
A delicious way to discover that what we consider waste can still have plenty to offer.
When chefs take over the anti-waste kitchen
The anti-food-waste food market will feature Nabil Zemmourini, also known as Chef N-Zem. Well-known on social media, he shares his anti-food-waste recipes with a community of over two million people.
Joining her is Guillaume Gomez, a former head chef at the Élysée Palace. Both are the event’s patrons for this second edition and will participate in the day’s cooking demonstration. Their goal is to show how food that might otherwise have been thrown away can be transformed into a new dish.
Other figures from the sustainable food movement will also be in attendance. Among them is Laurène Barjhoux, co-chef at Datil and co-president of Écotable. She’ll be joined by Célia Roussin, co-founder of GRAP.PARIS.

A small gesture in the kitchen that makes a real impact
Behind this event lies a serious issue. In France, 9.7 million metric tons of food waste are produced each year. Yet 3.8 million metric tons of that are still edible. That’s reason enough to discover a few tips for making better use of what we already have in the kitchen.
The event is organized in partnership with the HopHopFood association, which fights against food waste and food insecurity. In fact, the event takes place a few days before the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, scheduled for September 29.
Finally, after drawing around 2,000 visitors in 2025, the event is returning to Communale. The goal remains the same: to show that with a few creative ideas, what seemed good for the trash can still very much find its way onto our plates.
