Faced with a stream of anxiety-inducing news, Stefan Sagmeister offers a counterpoint: to show, backed by statistics, what is actually improving in the world. A New York-based graphic designer known for his collaborations with the Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, and the Talking Heads, he returns to the Gaîté Lyrique on October 15, 2026, for “Finally, Something Good,” his first major exhibition in France since “The Happy Show” in 2013.

Telling the story of global progress through design and data
The concept behind the exhibition is quite straightforward: using data from the UN, the World Bank, and other global and national databases, and transforming it into hybrid visual representations that blend traditional techniques with avant-garde concepts: repurposed historical paintings, clothing, sculptures, and installations. Conflict, food, health, access to healthcare, climate, migration, happiness… All of these topics are highly relevant today.

A designer who has won two Grammy Awards
Based in New York, Stefan Sagmeister has built a portfolio that spans commissioned design, publishing, film, exhibitions, and public installations. His work has been featured in institutions around the world.
His previous exhibition at the Gaîté Lyrique, “The Happy Show” in 2013, left a lasting impression by exploring his own quest for happiness. Thirteen years later, “Finally, Something Good” broadens the scope to the collective level, challenging the old adage that “things were better in the past.” To delve deeper into the theme throughout the exhibition period, the Gaîté Lyrique is offering a program of workshops and lectures.
