Blending heritage with new technologies, the Palace of Versailles continues to surprise. Come discover “Lumière de la Liberté, ” a brand-new immersive virtual reality experience that transports visitors to the 18th century, at the very moment when the history of American independence was being written. For about fifteen minutes, the famous estate becomes the setting for a spectacular journey alongside the Marquis de La Fayette, Benjamin Franklin, and Louis XVI. An original way to (re)discover the decisive role played by Versailles in the Franco-American alliance.
An immersive experience that brings the defining moments of the American Revolution to life

What if you could go behind the scenes of history? That is precisely what “Light of Liberty” promises . Equipped with a virtual reality headset, visitors are immersed in an adventure where real settings and virtual worlds blend together to recreate the events that marked the birth of the United States.
The tour begins in the Reception Gallery, where several historical panels and artworks set the scene before the immersive experience begins. The second part of the experience then draws participants into a 360° show, punctuated by interactive sequences that invite them to take part in the major events of this historic period. Naval battles, diplomatic negotiations, life at the Court of Versailles… all these scenes illustrate the essential role played by France and the Palace of Versailles in this alliance that has gone down in history.
Thanks to XR technology, this historic site and a turning point in history are revealed from a completely new perspective, offering a tour that is as spectacular as it is educational.
A new way to visit Versailles, blending heritage with new technologies

In recent years, immersive experiences have taken over major cultural venues, and the Palace of Versailles is no exception. With “Lumière de la Liberté, ” the tour takes on a whole new dimension: instead of simply observing the scenery, visitors become privileged witnesses to a pivotal moment in history.
The experience highlights, in particular, a sometimes overlooked episode: the role Versailles played in the birth of the United States. It was here that diplomatic alliances were forged and the major political balances of the 18th century took shape. By combining archival footage, reenactments, and interactive elements, this production offers a more vivid perspective on this period, appealing to both history buffs and those who wish to explore the palace in a new light.
On display through January 31, 2027, at the Pavillon d’Orléans, this immersive experience can easily be added to a tour of the estate. It’s a great reason to rediscover Versailles through a “revolutionary” experience, to live history, and to carry forward the values shared during the Age of Enlightenment.
