Leave terra firma behind, we’re taking you to the Moon! L’Atelier des Lumières has struck again with its immersive experience event: “Destination Lune: an immersive journey with Tom Hanks“. And believe us, if you’re looking for the most cosmic activity of the moment, this is it! For you, we’ve donned our cultural astronaut helmets and dived headfirst into this space odyssey. Here’s why we recommend you take off too.
L’Atelier des Lumières: when the old foundry gives way to daydreaming with Destination Lune
You’re familiar with the concept of this unusual museum space. L’Atelier des Lumièresis a vibrant living space in the 11th arrondissement, a former foundry that sublimates any subject (from painting to literature to astronomy) and disseminates culture in an inclusive way, inviting all spectators – even those unaccustomed to treading traditional museums – to engage with it through a more dynamic prism: that of technology.
Walking – literally – on the moon at Destination Moon: an immersive journey with Tom Hanks
Throughout the experience, you’re enveloped in 360° spectacular images of the conquest of space, all over the walls and floor, giving you the impression of walking on the moon. The visitor is transformed from a mere visitor to a direct witness of history. Faced with these lunar images, the ground transforms under our feet, which seem to weigh less, andwe feel tiny in the face of the immensity of space! It’s pure emotion that overwhelms us, and we lose all spatio-temporal reference points, giving way to a moment suspended in time.
The French voice of Tom Hanks guides us
And to guide us? Jean-Philippe Puymartin, the iconic French voice of Tom Hanks (yes, Woody in Toy Story!) narrates this journey. Co-written by the actor himself, who is passionate about space exploration, alongside author Christopher Riley, this immersive experience is a compendium of emotions. Curiosity, fascination, wonder… It’s impossible to remain indifferent to the stories of the astronauts sent on the famous Artemis mission!
NASA’s secrets brought to light
L’Atelier des Lumières has pulled out all the stops, with NASA archive images restored by expert Andy Saunders and projected in large format. We relive the Apollomissions and learn more about the future Artemis program in a spellbinding soundscape.
Did you know? The soundtrack was composed by Anne Nikitin (author of the soundtrack to the Apple TV series Hijack), performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (no less!) and recorded at Abbey Road Studios – yes, yes, the same place as the Beatles! – giving the whole a breathtakingcinematic dimension.
