Immersive Viking City: a large-scale multisensory experience
Somewhere between a theme park and a traditional museum, Cité Immersive Vikingstands out for its spectacular immersive dimension. Digital video mapping projections, 360-degree spatialized sound, smoke machines, smells, monumental decors… everything has been designed to immerse the spectator in the history of the Vikings.
Immersive Viking City, our opinion
In the four rooms of the tour, visitors travel back in time to experience life-size history in the first person. The first room, the “Smoking Ruins” room, is impressive for the realism of its scenography (special effects reproduced by smoke machines). It virtually tells the story of Rollon, an inspiring historical figure and a true symbol of cultural integration, and invites us to learn more about the little-known Viking culture.
Next, we push open the door to the “Camp Room”, where we can take part in a variety of activities related to everyday Viking life. You’re invited to take part in virtual interactions in response to the stories of the Vikings who populate the camp. Around a fire, over dinner… You meet different characters, each with their own personality and well-defined role, and actively participate in the organization of the camp. You’ll even learn to tie figure-8 knots!
We progress to the “Throne Room”, where we can sit on a Viking throne, and even take selfies with props. Here again, our strategic help is needed for a quiz. We position our drakkar, find the Thames… You have to earn the treasure!
Our crowning treasure is the “Room of Dreams”. Here, we open our hatches and let ourselves wander, watching Viking longships flash by on screens on the walls and floor. We swim in an ocean of high-definition images, the visual impact of which is accentuated by a 3D sound design landscape. In short, we leave the Westfield Carré Sénart a little lost in space-time, with the sensation of having had an extraordinary experience and having learned a great deal about this part of French history. Perhaps we are descended from Rollon or Ragnar…
