New images of Notre-Dame before reopening
With just a few weeks to go before its official reopening on December 8, Notre-Dame de Paris is gradually revealing the fruits of the titanic work begun after the devastating fire of April 2019. A recent video, shared on social networks, offers an exclusive glimpse of the cathedral’s interior, now transformed and sublimated by years of painstaking restoration.
The interior of Notre-Dame, once marred by soot and the ravages of time, now gleams in brilliant white. Cleaned stonework and restored stained glass windows let in a new light, highlighting the Gothic details and richly colored 19th-century chapels. This return to original splendor is the fruit of the hard work of hundreds of craftsmen and experts mobilized over the past five years.
Among the emblematic elements restored is the spire designed by Viollet-le-Duc, which once again towers 96 metres above Paris. Inside, the liturgical furnishings have been redesigned to combine tradition and modernity, including a new altar to be consecrated at the first mass. As the countdown to the reopening accelerates, some work remains to be finalized: paving the floor, installing the bells in the north belfry and putting in place the final decorative elements.
However, from December onwards, visitors and devotees alike will be able to rediscover this Gothic masterpiece in a whole new light.
