If you often take the train, especially to Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est, you know that it takes you at least a good ten minutes to walk from one station to the other. Time wasted that can really add up on your journey! In response to this, and to make life easier for thousands of passengers, an underground tunnel is to be built. This will enable the two stations to be reached in less than five minutes, watch in hand! See you in 2027!
A tunnel between two Paris stations
Every day, more than 100,000 passengers have to hurry to reach these two stations. 600 meters separate them, yet this journey wastes precious minutes for users, despite the addition of escalators and the pedestrianization of Rue d’Alsace to save time.

This is why an underground link is currently under construction. This tunnel, just 50 meters long , will link the two stations via Gare Magenta, and promises a crossing time of less than 5 minutes. However, you’ll have to be patient before you can take advantage of this shortcut. Although work has progressed well, the official opening of the tunnel is scheduled for… March 2027! This will take time, as the tunnel will be located just below the buildings, sewers and rail networks. The operation is therefore delicate and time-consuming! In any case, there’s no doubt that this project will satisfy many a traveller!
