The Eiffel Tower will have undergone its most extensive renovation in 40 years. But now, after 7 years’ work, the Iron Lady should finally be finished with this long cycle of works in 2026. The inner face of the Iron Lady will be repainted in the yellow-brown of 1907. The North pillar elevator, brand new and up to safety standards, should be back in service in January 2026. A renovation campaign that will have cost… 80 million euros for the paintwork alone.
The Eiffel Tower’s paintwork changes color: a choice in homage to Gustave Eiffel
Although the original color of the Eiffel Tower was “Venice Red” when it was presented to the public at the 1889 Exposition Universelle, it was the color Yellow-Brown that was subsequently chosen by its creator. This was validated when Gustave Eiffel learned that his tower would be permanent. A choice more in keeping with its creator’s wishes!
With 6.3 million visitors from 150 countries in 2024 alone, the Eiffel Tower is more than ever one of Paris’s most popular monuments worldwide. There’s no doubt that the work, most of which has already been completed, will make visiting the Tower even more enjoyable.
And what about the Olympic rings?
As we told you a few months ago,the Olympic rings were likely to remain on the Iron Lady forever. A decision that did not please Gustave Eiffel’s family at all. Finally removed last September, Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced that she was not against the idea of a possible return of the Olympic symbol for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028… It remains to be seen whether they will be visible again.
