Every summer, the Île-de-France region reveals a more understated side of itself. Far from the usual tourist routes, “Jardins ouverts” features more than 200 gardens, parks, and estates that invite visitors to explore the region from a new perspective. For this 10th edition, running from June 27 to August 30, the event reaffirms its mission: to highlight the richness and diversity of the Île-de-France region’s green spaces through a cultural program accessible to all.
A Different Perspective on the Île-de-France Region
When we think of Île-de-France, the grand monuments and the hustle and bustle of Paris often come to mind. Yet the region also harbors a remarkable natural heritage. And contrary to popular belief, 75% of it consists of natural, agricultural, and forested areas.
Through this summer program, more than 200 gardens, parks, and estates invite visitors to explore another facet of the region. From historic gardens to large landscaped estates, including heritage sites that are sometimes overlooked, the event offers plenty of opportunities to escape the city for a day or an afternoon.
Among this year’s must-see destinations, the Villarceaux Regional Estate captivates visitors with the expanse of its green spaces and the richness of its heritage. For a more intimate experience, the Maison Cocteau offers a chance to explore the world of the poet and artist in a setting steeped in history. It’s a wonderful way to (re)discover the many treasures hidden in Île-de-France, often just a few kilometers from Paris.
A Cultural Program at the Heart of the Gardens
Beyond exploring these sites, visitors will be able to enjoy a cultural program designed for all audiences throughout the summer. Concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and gatherings will punctuate the season and bring these natural spaces to life.
This year, several gardens will also host art installations on display throughout the event. Integrated directly into the landscapes, they will foster a dialogue between contemporary art and the natural environment, allowing visitors to extend their experience throughout the summer, well beyond the one-off events offered at the various sites.
With this 10th edition, the event has established itself as a major summer destination in Île-de-France, inviting residents and visitors alike to (re)discover the region’s many landscape treasures through an approach that is at once focused on heritage, culture, and accessibility.
