If you don’t know what to do for Valentine’s Day, we suggest you discover one of the gems of the Chantilly region: Senlis. A medieval village that hasn’t changed a bit in over 2,000 years. Between its ancient ramparts, its gladiatorial arena from the Gallo-Roman era, and its abbey, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to another world. It’s the perfect place to stroll through a movie set for an enchanted weekend for two.
Senlis: for a romantic getaway in the heart of a thousand-year-old village
When people talk about medieval villages not far from Paris, many think of Provins, the wonderful city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, just 25 minutes from Paris by TER train lies a hidden gem: Senlis, listed as a Remarkable Heritage Site.

This medieval town with over 2,000 years of history will charm you with its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and old stones. It’s a romantic destination, perfect for strolling with your partner. We love visiting the 1st-century arena where gladiators once fought. Saint-Vincent Abbey is another of the town’s gems. Founded around 1060, it is the pride of Senlis! Although the abbey now houses a private high school, parts of it can be visited during European Heritage Days.

If time allows, take a stroll along the medieval fortifications and the Nonette River, or toward Rue de la Treille, known for its charming colorful houses. It’s a sight that will delight all your senses! Finally, don’t miss the royal castle and its park, where Hugues Capet was crowned King of France in 987. A beautiful city to discover with your loved one on Valentine’s Day!
