On the banks of the Seine, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, a new water sports center offers the chance to try electric surfing and relax by a floating pool. Called Foil In Paris and located onAllée du Bord-de-l’Eau, this spot offers unique outdoor activities for the capital, far from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
The main attraction is foiling, a motorized surfboard that rises above the water thanks to a streamlined mast. Participants enjoy a vast riding area stretching over three kilometers, with the towers of La Défense as a backdrop. After a safety briefing, novice surfers head out onto the water, equipped with a wetsuit, a helmet, and a life jacket. While the first attempts often end in falls into the Seine, participants quickly get the hang of operating the remote control that regulates speed. It takes about ten minutes to stabilize the board and successfully lift off the water’s surface during a one-hour introductory session.
The floating facility also features a pool integrated into the wooden deck, offering a direct view of the Seine and river traffic. Access to this relaxation area is available as a package that includes a three-hour stay and one drink, allowing visitors to enjoy the venue without necessarily participating in the sports activities.
Back on dry land, the venue offers the chance to try out electric skateboards called “Sternboards.” These sturdy boards, equipped with wide, treaded wheels, are designed to ride on the dirt paths of the Bois de Boulogne. The motor is powered by a battery that the user carries directly in a backpack, connected to the board via a power cable. For initial trials, a removable handlebar helps users find their balance. Once they’ve mastered their speed and posture, users can remove this support and experience a gliding sensation comparable to that of snowboarding or surfing.
