For over 800 years, the Royal Abbey of Chaalis has been one of the hidden gems of the Oise region, well worth your attention. Visitors come to explore its magnificent castle, its 13th-century chapel, but above all its Cistercian abbey, which is partially in ruins. On sunny days, the abbey is adorned with a thousand colors thanks to its rose garden. Filled with heirloom roses, it is a delight for the eyes! And right now is the perfect time to admire them.
A secret abbey with heirloom roses located just outside Paris
Spanning 3,500 m², you’ll discover a magnificentrose garden, where theflowers are grouped by color along the paths. A true haven of peace, created in the early 20th century, where you can enjoy the intoxicating scent of various varieties for several weeks.

You’ll find the lovely climbing and weeping roses from Poland, which bloom elegantly around the pergolas and along the paths. But also Gallic roses,known for their sweet fragrance… Of course, to add vitality to the landscape, the rose garden has been slightly modified since its creation, for example with the addition of perennials here and there to harmonize the whole.

Throughout the month of June, the roses are in full bloom! Flower lovers will be in heaven as they wander through this romantic garden. On June 12, 13, and 14, Rose Days celebrate the queen of flowers! It’s a chance to buy plants from nursery growers, but also to pick up some tips on caring for this sometimes finicky, yet oh-so-wonderful flower.
