It’s no secret that Paris is lucky to have some very fine restaurants, some of which are over a hundred years old. But it can be difficult to sort out the overly expensive institutions from the tourist traps… If you’re passing through the first arrondissement, and more specifically Rue Saint-Honoré, you can’t miss the restaurant La Renommée. This institution, which was a former grocery store founded in 1823, immediately catches the eye with its beautifully preserved, historic facade. A magnificent address that exudes the charm of old Paris and is definitely worth a visit…
La Renommée: typically French chic
A few steps from the world’s largest museum, a truly magical place has been hidden away for almost two centuries. Formerly a grocery and dairy store, La Renommée has retained all the charm and history of its past. Although the restaurant has been open since 2023, the façade is over two hundred years old! Inside, you’ll find a very cozy decor, covered in warm wood, old chandeliers, and antique paintings… Everything immerses us in the atmosphere of Paris of yesteryear. A refined, very intimate restaurant that goes hand in hand with the menu.

The menu celebrates French gastronomy with generous dishes made from exceptional ingredients. The plates are gourmet and the waiters in suits give their best for impeccable service. Meat lovers will be won over by the caramelized milk-fed veal chop or the matured beef chop to share between two. Special mention goes to our favorite dish, the sole meunière, delicately prepared before your eyes by the maître d’hôtel. Add to that the equally divine side dishes: old-fashioned mashed potatoes, crisp vegetables… Wine lovers can even pair their dish with one of the 700 wines in the cellar to further enhance the flavors.

Finally, to end the evening on a high note, why not enjoy your dessert in the restaurant’s speakeasy? With its cozy atmosphere, velvet armchairs, and soft lighting, it feels like a scene from a movie set in New York City. You can enjoy excellent cocktails and indulge in the house tarte tatin, served warm. A pretty, romantic boudoir, perfect for awakening the senses!
