Far from what you’re already familiar with in terms of gastronomy, Georgian cuisine has plenty to surprise you. But if you want the best introduction to Georgian cuisine, you might as well go to a reference table! Head for the 11th arrondissement, where Magda Genenava has set up her second Parisian restaurant. Somewhere between a neighborhood hangout and an authentic canteen, this address ticks all the boxes for a spot to try out as soon as possible.
Chez Magda: the ideal place to discover Georgian gastronomy
Building on the success of her first establishment in Jaurès, Magda, passionate about the cuisine of her native country, has pursued her Parisian dream by opening her second restaurant in the heart of the 11th arrondissement. At Magda’s, you’ll enjoy a large, warm and elegant space overlooking the kitchens. It’s an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the chef at work, preparing the day’s delights. And since a good Georgian evening often ends in song, a large karaoke room has even been designed in the basement.
Now that the stage has been set, it’s time to get down to business: the food! With each dish prepared using traditional methods and carefully selected ingredients, this is the place to enjoy the best of authentic Georgian cuisine. Perfect for sharing, some dishes set the tone right from the start of the meal. Stuffed eggplant with walnut cream, spinach or beet dips or stuffed mushrooms: there’s plenty to get the festivities started.
To continue this culinary feast, make way for one of the house specialties, khinkalis with beef or cheese, a kind of large Georgian ravioli served with a delicious coriander cream sauce. Otherwise, it’s impossible to eat Georgian food without tasting the khachapuri and atcharuli, generous patties filled with cheese. All that’s left to do is finish off with a sweet treat concocted by Magda, and you’ve completed your tour of Georgian gastronomy in style! Last but not least, of course, you’ll want to try Georgian wine, which is highly reputed.
All in all, for the friendly atmosphere, the generous menu or simply for your culinary curiosity, passing through Chez Magda’s doors is a good idea.
