Our beloved Marché des Enfants Rouges was engulfed in flames on October 12. It was a very violent fire that ravaged the entire market, from the roof trusses down to the vendors’ stalls… Without a place to work, the vendors must now figure out how to move forward… Here’s what we know!
The Marché des Enfants Rouges reopens… off-site
More than two weeks after the terrible fire that struck this Parisian institution, vendors are finding new ways to keep their businesses going. According to Le Parisien, some vendors could resume business in early November.

This time, it won’t be inside the market but on Rue de Bretagne where regulars will be able to find their favorite produce vendors, fishmongers, and florists. For now, it’s unclear when or how often this market will truly return to normal, especially since the vendors who also ran restaurants won’t be able to reopen under the same conditions…
The City of Paris, for its part, has confirmed its commitment to rebuilding the market exactly as it was. If you’d like, you can currently contribute to the fundraising campaign launched by the Fondation du Patrimoine to help rebuild this market, which is so dear to Parisians.
