A perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of Paris
It doesn’t take long to see why Quiberon so often appears on lists of the most beautiful getaways in Brittany. The road leading to the peninsula already offers a glimpse of the scenery: the ocean comes into view on both sides, the moors gradually replace farmland, and the air takes on that characteristic scent of sea spray.
To the west, storms have carved the granite for centuries, leaving behind natural arches, coves, and headlands that rank among the most impressive landscapes in Morbihan.
Then, all you have to do is cross the peninsula to experience a completely different atmosphere. The bay gives way to a much calmer sea lined with a succession of fine-sand beaches. Grande Plage, Goviro, and Conguel attract families as well as paddleboarders and swimmers alike, with water that sometimes takes on turquoise hues when the sun is out.
In the heart of downtown, behind the bustling outdoor cafes and seaside shops, the old canneries serve as a reminder that sardine fishing has long shaped the local economy. Breton specialties still play an important role, from seafood platters to butter cookies, not to mention the famous niniches—artisanal lollipops made in Quiberon for over a century that many take home as souvenirs.
The peninsula is also an excellent starting point for exploring the Morbihan islands. From Port-Maria, ferries reach Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat, or Hoëdic in less than an hour, offering the chance to discover several different landscapes without having to make multiple trips. In fact, many choose to spend a day on Belle-Île before returning to Quiberon in the late afternoon, when the docks come alive again.
If Quiberon continues to charm so many travelers, it’s precisely because it’s never just a simple seaside destination. Some come to hike along the cliffs, others to enjoy the beaches in the bay or take a boat to the neighboring islands. Few places offer such a variety of landscapes within such a small area, and that is undoubtedly what makes people want to return, no matter the season.
