Paris is gearing up for a weekend of madness surrounding the Champions League final between PSG and Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday, May 31. The French capital is putting in place an unprecedented festive and security program to celebrate the event before, during and after kick-off.
The full program for the Champions League Final
From Friday evening, the Eiffel Tower will kick off the festivities. At 9 p.m., the iconic monument will sparkle and broadcast a message of support to all Paris fans. On Saturday, from 8 p.m., the Iron Lady will be illuminated in the club’s red and blue colors throughout the match, and will shine for every goal scored by PSG! Luminous panels along the ring road, notably near the Parc des Princes, will also display messages of encouragement written by fans.
To follow the match, several fan zones and giant broadcasts have been organized in Paris and the surrounding suburbs. The Hippodrome de Longchamp will host France’s biggest open-air party, with a 30-meter diagonal LED screen, numerous food trucks and an XXL atmosphere expected by thousands of fans. A giant broadcast will also take place at the Parc des Princes, and many Parisian bars will be broadcasting the match.
On the Champs-Élysées, the Prefecture de Police has put in place a security system comparable to that of New Year’s Eve, with the avenue closed to traffic from 7pm on Saturday evening. In the event of a PSG victory, an official parade is scheduled for Sunday afternoon between the Champs-Élysées traffic circle and the Arc de Triomphe, with a double-decker bus for the players and six giant screens for the public. Finally, after the parade, the players could go to the Élysée Palace and then to the Parc des Princes to present the trophy to the fans, subject to reservation. But to do that, they’ll have to win first!
