Just a short train ride from the Gare d’Austerlitz lies the commune of Lardy, and it’s here that you can discover the most beautiful Art Deco garden in the Paris region. Created in 1927, this unusual green space is a lovely blend of greenery and architecture. And for the 2025 edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, this garden, just 40 minutes from the capital, will be illuminated in a series of exceptional projections!
Parc Boussard, an Art Deco garden in the Paris region
Commissioned by the Boussard family in 1925, the eponymous park is the work of Joseph Marrast, already behind many prestigious buildings. Inaugurated in 1927, it embodies all the major principles of Art Deco, and thus conforms to the movement’s architectural trends of geometric forms and “beauty with simple materials”. Thus, in a harmonious and somewhat satisfying symmetry, we find mosaics, staircases and red bricks surrounded by greenery.
In terms of vegetation, the Parc Boussard covers some 5,000 square meters, organized around terraces, canals, a central pool and water features. Boxwood balls, rose beds and forest trees add a refined touch of greenery. Listed on the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 1997 and restored from 2020 to 2022 with the support of the DRAC Île-de-France, the Fondation du Patrimoine and local authorities, the park was awarded the Remarkable Garden label in 2024.
The Journées du Patrimoine are the perfect opportunity to discover this unique space. And for 2025, a fine program has been concocted. On Saturday evening, September 20, you’ll be able to enjoy Kolektif Alambik’s “distillery of images”. The park will be transformed by enchanting installations and illuminations. The following day, guided tours will take place in the garden, allowing visitors to glean as much information as possible about the garden, and to get the full experience.
