At the genesis of the camera and film, in the 1890s, Belle-Époque Paris was in full swing. This was precisely the subject of one of the first videos to depict the capital. Thanks to this restored, colorized and sound-enhanced version, we can rediscover the Paris of another era as if we were there. Let’s activate our time machine and discover the oldest images of the capital.
Here are the oldest filmed images of Paris
After sharing with you the oldest photograph of Paris by Daguerre, we turn our attention to another technological milestone: the appearance of video in Paris. Democratized in the 1890s, the process was soon used in Paris during the Belle-Époque period. So, here and there, we can find shots taken in the four corners of the City of Light and in front of its most beautiful monuments.
These vintage videos have been compiled, restored and assembled by Denis Shiryaev. Thanks to the youtuber’s initiative, we can now view these images of the Paris of yesteryear and immerse ourselves in an era that seems so long ago. Yes, the Paris you’ll see here is closer to the Revolution than it is to the present day! You’ll see Notre-Dame, the Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries and even moving sidewalks, the curious invention of the time.
To achieve this insane result, the videographer carried out extensive restoration work, including boosting FPS and resolution, colorizing and even adding sound in collaboration with another youtuber. The result is a 6-minute gem, to be viewed without moderation!
