Following the demonstration on Saturday, October 17—which drew no fewer than 800,000 people to the streets of Paris—a second demonstration will indeed take place on October 24. Here are the neighborhoods involved!
October 24 Protest: Which Neighborhoods Are Affected?
Next Saturday, protesters are planning to gather mainly in eastern Paris! It appears that the 3rd, 10th, and 11th arrondissements around Place de la République will be affected, as well as the 4th, 11th, and 12th arrondissements near Place de la Bastille. These locations must be approved by the Prefecture of Police and may be changed or prohibited if public safety is at risk.
To be sure of the route, the Prefecture of Police regularly publishes prefectural decrees on its social media channels. There you’ll find the officially approved and prohibited routes, usually the day before the demonstration.
Will there be another curfew?
It’s hard to say at this point! In fact, on the night of October 19–20, the Police Prefecture had banned all undeclared gatherings from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The areas of Paris-Centre, République, and the 10th and 11th arrondissements were affected. This curfew continues on Tuesday, October 20, from 8:00 p.m. until Wednesday, October 21, at 6:00 a.m. The affected areas are:
- The neighborhoods around the Élysée Palace, the Ministry of the Interior, the Champs-Élysées, and Place Vendôme,
- The neighborhoods surrounding Paris’s train stations (Montparnasse, Austerlitz, Lyon, Est, and Saint-Lazare)
- Île de la Cité
- Les Halles
- Place de la République, Place de la Bastille, Place de la Bourse, and Place d’Italie
- The neighborhoods surrounding the National Assembly and Matignon
Business owners, residents, and employees who need to travel through these areas are not subject to this curfew and may prove their presence there by any means.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has not ruled out imposing a new curfew, or even declaring a state of emergency, if disturbances are reported between now and the next demonstration.
