It’s been five years since our beloved Notre-Dame began its restoration. Since December 2024, you’ve once again been able to visit one of our capital’s most beloved religious buildings. But the work is far from over. Over the next seven years, twelve phases of restoration will be launched! From the facade blackened by the flames to the three rose windows…
New restoration work for Notre-Dame… through 2033
As you know, in 2019, our beloved Notre-Dame suffered a devastating fire that could have been fatal… Thanks to the tremendous work of artisans and workers, the cathedral was able to reopen to the public in 2024. But restoration work continues nonetheless! This time, the plan is to spread twelve renovation projects over the next seven years.
The facades blackened by the fire will regain their original colors. The western rose window, located on the cathedral’s main facade, will be restored and also protected from future weather conditions that could cause it to deteriorate. It hadn’t been restored since the 19th century! The north facade of the transept will also undergo restoration and a thorough cleaning of its medieval sculptures, which have become heavily encrusted with grime over time.
A fundraising appeal has been launched to raise 130 million euros to finance this project. There’s no doubt that after these renovations, the cathedral will be more beautiful than ever!
