The towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris have been badly damaged since the fire in 2019, and are still undergoing restoration work. But the good news is that they are set to reopen this summer. An all-new, immersive and sensory tour has also been designed! We tell you all about it.
Notre-Dame de Paris: the towers reopen this summer with a brand new tour route
After suffering the full force of the fire of 2019 and a long period of restoration work, the cathedral’s towers will once again be open to the public this summer.
The base of the oak belfry in the south tower will be replaced, and the tour route has been completely redesigned. The latter will be enhanced by highly immersive sound effects. What’s more, visitors will have the chance to discover new views of the new spire and roof structure!
They’ll also be able to see the bourdon, Notre-Dame’s largest bell, and one of the most imposing in France. Located in the south tower, it is rung on special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and All Saints’ Day, as well as events such as the election or death of the Pope.
In all, no fewer than 400,000 visitors are expected to visit the towers alone this year. However, the price of the tour has been increased by 6 euros. Tickets for the two towers cost 16 euros, compared with 10 euros before the fire.
Since its reopening last December, Notre-Dame Cathedral has already welcomed 1.6 million visitors, according to the Diocese of Paris.
