Following in the footsteps of the long-established Colonnes de Buren, the eponymous French artist recently tackled a storefront on the quiet Rue des Acacias. The result: a never-before-seen work on a facade, revealing the artist’s famous zebra motif. The installation, which houses a contemporary art center, has been in place since late October.
A new work by Daniel Buren in Paris
Almost 40 years ago, the courtyard of the Palais-Royal saw 260 colorful cylinders emerge from its 3,000 square meter surface. Les Colonnes de Buren were born and, after some controversy, gradually became a favorite with tourists. Today, Paris is once again treated to a creation by the world-famous artist: head for the 17th arrondissement to discover it.

In the quiet Rue des Acacias, a facade has been given a new black-and-white zebra look, Daniel Buren’s signature motif. At number 30, Reiffers Art Initiatives, an art and exhibition center dedicated to young contemporary artists, decided to mark the five-year anniversary of its mentorship by commissioning a work by the visual artist. October 24 marked the birth of the famous black and white façade. Since then, it’s been possible not only to admire it, but also to treat oneself to a small exhibition. Right now, Daniel Buren and Miles Greenberg are staging a joint exhibition in this unusual venue!
