Despite its reputation as the city of love, Paris is not the most romantic département in France… That’s the conclusion reached by Zava after conducting a study based on the ambience of each corner of France, the activities available there and the general appeal of the locations. The result is a top 10 list, and while the Île-de-France region is in the limelight, Paris didn’t come out on top as you might expect.
Which is the most romantic département in France?
From cosy restaurants and cultural activities to wellness spots and activities for couples, the wealth of France offers a wealth of romantic experiences in all its regions. That’s why Zava, a medical teleconsultation expert specializing in intimate health, has taken a closer look at the subject to deliver a ranking of départements according to their “romance score”.
Surprisingly, Paris is not at the top of the list. But to find the most romantic destination in France, you’ll have to go to the Rhône. Indeed, it’s the department surrounding the city of Lyon that comes out on top, with a score of 9.53. The Hauts-de-Seine follows with a score of 9.51, and our beloved capital takes third place with a score of 9.45. Conversely, according to the study, Meuse scored the lowest with 3.36.
To proceed, the Zaza teams sifted through a number of criteria using a rigorous methodology. They analyzed the number of cultural activities, restaurants, spas and wellness facilities, couple experiences and popular romantic sites. To this was added a beauty score determined by the ratings of a leading travel review website. Finally, the final score was also calculated according to the surface area of the departments analyzed.
In the case of Paris, for example, while the capital scored very well in all categories, it was the landscape beauty score that did it a disservice, lowering its score.
