2024 ended as a historic year for tourism in the capital. With the impetus of the Olympic Games, almost 22 million visitors came to Paris last year. So much so that photos were taken in droves, especially on Instagram. This is the subject of a recent study by L’Atelier parisien d’urbanisme, whose statisticians analyzed the data to determine which Parisian monument was the most photographed in 2024. The results may surprise you!
Which was the most photographed monument in Paris in 2024?
Of all the photos taken in Paris by visitors or residents, many end up on social networks, with Instagram leading the way. By looking at hashtags, analysts were able to create a map of the monuments most in the spotlight. Surprising as it may seem, the Eiffel Tower, symbol of Paris, is not in first place. Worse still, it’s not even on the podium!
Indeed, according to the study, the most photographed monument in 2024 was the Sacré-Coeur, the emblem of the Montmartre district. It is closely followed by the Arc de Triomphe and then the Champs-Élysées to round off the top 3. The list also includes other emblematic monuments, as well as a few surprises, such as the Parc des Princes and the Tour Montparnasse. Finally, although the Left Bank is full of beautiful monuments and iconic places, it’s the Right Bank that has the most hashtags.
