“Every alleyway is a discovery”: what wonders are there to see in Pigna?
The reason Pigna captivates its visitors so much is that it has managed to preserve its soul over the centuries. In Corsican, “Pigna” means “wheat mill, ” a name inherited from the Genoese era, when Balagne was one of the island’s most prosperous agricultural regions.
Today, this village of fewer than a hundred residents charms visitors with its small houses with blue shutters, its flower-filled squares, and its peaceful atmosphere. As you stroll through the village, every alleyway reveals a new surprise.
Among the must-see sites is the adobe auditorium, located near the parish church. Dedicated to traditional music and concerts, it highlights the importance of culture in village life.
A village where culture and craftsmanship take center stage
Just a few steps away is A Vaccaghja, a former livestock pen converted into an amphitheater, where concerts and shows are held. A restored old blacksmith’s shop has been converted into a public fountain.
Curiosity seekers can also step inside Scatt’à Musica, an incredible little museum dedicated to hand-painted music boxes that play traditional Corsican tunes.
