Three Parisian café-libraries voted among the world’s finest
Book cafés, or cafés-librairies, are one of the third places that have fascinated Parisians in recent years. And to find your way through the Parisian literary jungle, just take a look at the latest ranking by 1000 Librairies, which simply put 3 Parisian addresses in its top 5 of the world’s best book cafés.
While the winner (Minoa Pera) is in Istanbul, the 2nd place overall goes to Used Book Café. In the Haut-Marais district of Paris, this annex of the famous Merci concept store offers an attractive menu, including gourmet tartines. The podium is completed by the bookshop in the iconic Halle Saint-Pierre in Montmartre. Finally, just behind them is L’eau et les Rêves, the famous barge moored on the Canal de l’Ourcq, with its magical setting.
These addresses stand out for their unique atmosphere: ceiling-high shelves of books, large wooden tables, soft lighting and the scent of freshly-ground coffee. Here, people come not just to drink an espresso, but also to find beautiful references, sit down and enjoy a moment of relaxation and reading.
