Which are the most reliable lines on the Paris metro? While RATP was underlining “high performance” for 2025, what is really the case? Le Parisien sifted through data such as punctuality and the number of disruptions on rail sections to take stock. So, is your line among the best?
Here are the most punctual lines on the Paris metro
Every year, Le Parisien unveils its barometer of Paris metro line punctuality. In 2024, there was a clear improvement on most lines, but how do things stand this year? Well, according to the daily’s journalists, the balance sheet is “not bad, but it’s difficult to conclude that there has been a clear improvement on last year”. Indeed, for example, 5 lines have a negative balance compared with 2024, while 4 show a notable improvement.
In terms of methodology, Le Parisien analyzed train frequency data for stations located in the middle of the 14 main metro lines. This data was then analyzed on weekdays and at peak times. The result was a table comparing the average gap between two trains over the last two years. Finally, the total number of hours of disruption over the analysis period was also calculated, giving us an overall idea of the reliability of certain lines.
Unsurprisingly, it’s the automated lines that are the champions of punctuality. On average, there are less than two minutes between trains on lines 1 and 14. Nevertheless, this is a little more than last year. Conversely, lines 10, 8 and 12 average around one train every three minutes, with a notable drop in performance on lines 10 and 12 compared with last year. And if we continue to compare to 2024, we’ll note a marked improvement on lines 11, 4 and 5.
Finally, as far as disruptions are concerned, the automated lines are still logically the best performers. This is not the case for lines 9 and 13, which can be considered the least reliable of the entire network.
It remains to be seen whether the improvement trend will continue in 2026…
