If the incessant hustle and bustle of the capital, coupled with the heat, is making you long for an escape, we’ve got just the thing to soothe your wounds. Just 40 kilometers north-west of Paris lies a small village steeped in history and abundant in greenery, considered one of the region’s finest escapes. Right in the heart of the Yvelines, the charming village of Médan promises a quality stroll in the sunshine.
A historic getaway awaits you in Médan
When it comes to charming little villages, you’re spoilt for choice in the beautiful Île-de-France region. On the Seine-et-Marne side with Milly-la-Forêt or Moret sur Loing, or in the Val d’Oise with La Roche Guyon. But today, we’re heading northwest of Paris, to the Yvelines department, to discover a pretty nugget. Situated on a loop of the Seine, away from any hustle and bustle, this little village of just 1,300 souls is definitely worth a visit!
Before discovering its main landmarks, why not simply stroll through the narrow streets of Médan, discover the Île de Platais and why not take a dip? This is the best way to immerse yourself in the little town. Along the way, you can also follow in the footsteps of Émile Zola, one of the most illustrious figures to have set foot here (and to have improvised as a photographer), and discover the permanent exhibition of his photographs.
But the main attraction of a trip to Médan is the 3 exceptional buildings within its walls. Be sure to visit the Musée Dreyfus, Émile Zola’s former home, now converted into a museum, as well as the beautiful 17th-century church of Saint-Germain, with its rich and eventful history. But a visit to Médan would not be complete without admiring the town’ s château. Prized by poets through the ages, it has survived to the present day and stands proudly as the town’s landmark. A magnificent panorama, all the more so when spring reveals the beautiful colors of the flowers facing it.
