Just a few dozen minutes from Paris, the Sausset Departmental Park is one of the region’s major green spaces, yet remains relatively unknown. Covering nearly 200 hectares, it spans two municipalities and is one of the largest parks in the department.
an oasis of wilderness accessible directly via the RER B
Known for its diverse landscapes, the park features a mix of meadows, marshes, forests, farmland, and ponds. Partially designated as a Natura 2000 site, it offers a true mosaic of natural environments—a rarity so close to Paris. You can easily go from a large open lawn to a wooded path, then to a small lake where you can observe birds.

The site was developed in the 1980s on former farmland in the Plaine de France. The landscape architects chose to preserve the rural spirit of the place, with fields, hedgerows, and even a small vineyard. This approach gives the park a distinctive character, often described as “the countryside in the city.”
At the center, Savigny Pond is one of the most pleasant spots for a short break. Surrounding it, vast lawns invite you to relax in the sun whenever the weather permits. For families, there are also several family-friendly areas, including playgrounds, sports fields, and picnic areas.
And good news for hikers: a roughly two-hour hiking loop lets you explore the main areas, while other trails are available for sports or shorter walks. You can also go biking, running, or simply stroll along the paths.

Another unique feature is that Parc du Sausset hosts projects related to urban agriculture. These include an educational vegetable garden, an apiary, and cultivated areas, which are accessible during tours or regularly organized events.
Less crowded than other major parks in the Paris region, Parc du Sausset offers an appealing alternative for a peaceful stroll. With its varied landscapes, wide-open spaces, and rural atmosphere, it’s the perfect destination as soon as spring arrives. And to top it all off, it’s directly accessible via the RER B!
