Just twenty minutes from Paris, it’s hard to imagine a place that feels so far removed from the city. And yet, the Vallée-aux-Loups Arboretum, nestled in Châtenay-Malabry, offers a true escape from the city. Here, there are no traditional gardens or sweeping vistas, but rather a stroll along winding paths, natural terrain, and dense vegetation.
A totally immersive garden that transports you to another world
Although still relatively unknown, the site—spanning over 12 hectares —is home to nearly 500 species of trees and shrubs. But the appeal lies not only in its botanical diversity. Here, every detail has been carefully designed to create an immersive stroll inspired by English-style gardens.
The highlight of the visit is the famous weeping blue cedar, whose branches stretch almost horizontally, immediately catching the eye. A little further on, the ponds and rocks create a wilder atmosphere, almost unexpected so close to Paris.
The site is part of the Vallée-aux-Loups estate, which also includes a large wooded park and Chateaubriand’s house. This allows you to extend your outing if desired, with different atmospheres just a few minutes’ walk away.

Spring remains one of the best times to explore the arboretum. Right now, the vegetation is coming back to life, the colors are changing rapidly, and the light highlights the landscape’s contours. Fall is also appealing for its warmer hues, while summer offers beautiful opportunities for walks as well.
Easily accessible via the RER B to Robinson and then on foot, the Vallée-aux-Loups Arboretum is the perfect simple and efficient getaway from Paris.
