Sunrise and sunset then become truly special moments. Even outside these periods, the reserve remains a paradise for birdwatchers, with numerous species visible around the lake.
On-site, you can cycle around the lake on an accessible, well-maintained trail that’s about 38 kilometers long. It’s one of the best ways to explore the diverse landscapes, including forests, reed beds, and beaches. Swimming is permitted in certain areas, with sandy beaches that become very pleasant as soon as the warm weather arrives.
Water sports enthusiasts can also enjoy the wind and all the open space. Sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and even water skiing are available on certain parts of the lake. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the trails allow you to walk along the water’s edge or venture deep into the surrounding woods.
Around the lake, several villages bear witness to its unique history. When the lake was created, some were submerged, making way for this vast expanse of water. The half-timbered church in Champaubert-aux-Bois, rebuilt after the lake was flooded, still serves as a reminder of this past.
