France beats Beijing record with 45 medals
It’s historic: France broke its record for the number of medals won, with 48. That’s more than at the Beijing Games, where France particularly shone! At the last Tokyo Games, France won 33 medals, including 10 Olympic titles.
A new record was set for this year’s event, with 13 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze medals for the French team, which climbed to 4th place on the podium.
In 3ᵉ position, we find Australia with 14 gold medals, then China with 22 gold medals and finally the United States with 24 gold medals.
Paris Olympics: Who are our Olympic champions?
To date, France has 13 Olympic champions in various disciplines. These include :
- Kauli Vaast, who shone in surfing, winning France’s first gold medal in the discipline.
- The French Judo team also won gold, retaining their Olympic title.
- Joris Daudet wins the gold medal in BMX-RACING and, together with Sylvain André and Romain Matthieu, achieves the feat of seeing a trio of French riders on the podium. A feat not seen since the 1924 Games. ..
- Léon Marchand wins 4 gold medals on his own in swimming, a feat never before achieved by the French team. A new sports icon is born!
- Teddy Riner is definitely the king of judo. The latter became Olympic champion by winning the gold medal in the over 100kg category from South Korea’s Minjong Kim, by Ippon.
- Cassandre Beaugrand becomes Olympic triathlon champion. The 27-year-old thus passed Switzerland’s Julie Derron and Britain’s Beth Potter, thanks to an impressive final burst of speed before the finish line.

Manon Apithy-Brunet was not the favorite, yet she fought like a lioness against her compatriot Sara Balzer in the final. Her tenacity paid off in the end, as she won gold on Monday July 29. A magnificent finale that will live long in the memory!
- Nicolas Gestin made Canoe Slalom history by becoming Olympic champion, beating the Briton by more than five seconds. Phenomenal!
- Pauline Ferrand-Prévot had already won everything. Anything but an Olympic title! The latter shone in the mountain bike cross-country race.
