As tradition dictates, June 21 will once again be a time for dancing in Paris, as the Fête de la Musique returns with a bang. And among the (very) many things to do on the day is this lovely, poetic concert featuring traditional Japanese music. Orchestrated on the Place de Kyoto, in front of the Maison du Japon, “Bienvenue à Miyako-Jima” (Welcome to Miyako-Jima ) will plunge you into the world of the Land of the Rising Sun, and more specifically that of the Okinawa islands.
Japanese music in the spotlight with a free traditional concert
Every year, the whole of Paris gets into the spirit of the Fête de la musique. If 2024 was synonymous with free concerts, dance shows and other open-air events, 2025 will also be the year of musical events of all kinds. And among all the surprises to come, it’s an event with an oriental flavour that caught our attention. The event is called “Welcome to Miyako-Jima” and will take place in Kyoto Square.
On June 21, starting at 6 p.m., Paris Sanshin Club will join forces with folk group Yui no Ne to present a traditional concert from the Okinawa islands. Thanks to the voice of singer Miwa Yonashiro and the mastery of the musicians accompanying her, a veritable musical voyage will take place right in front of the Maison du Japon. The hour-long show will combine authentic singing, traditional dancing and folklore, all free of charge!
While all the arrondissements of Paris will be celebrating on June 21, make the most of an off-the-beaten-track outing like this one. And if you’re a lover of Japanese culture, this extraordinary concert is already a must-see.
