In love with Paris for over 20 years, rock’n’roll artist Lenny Kravitz wanted a pied-à-terre all his own. An apartment facing the Seine or a house in the countryside. But it was in fact a hidden mansion belonging to a former aristocrat that Lenny acquired in 2006. And you may well come across him in the streets of the 16ᵉ arrondissement for a good part of the year… The singer stays there half the year to recharge his batteries and find inspiration. For the first time, the artist opened the doors of his immense 1,500 m² home to AD magazine journalists. And as you’ll see, the house is sublime!
Lenny Kravitz: his immense mansion in Paris
Named “Hôtel Roxie” in tribute to his mother, who dreamed of living in Paris, Lenny Kravitz designed his sublime residence himself. His style? He defines it as such to Architectural Digest magazine:
“Everything is designed to be neither too minimalist nor too maximalist. I like this balance between Africa, Europe, Afrofuturism and midcentury pieces, elements that are both glamorous and brutalist.”
Lenny’s antique collection
Here, you’ll find everything from souvenirs to one-of-a-kind objets d’art. Family portraits, such as those of his mother or grandfather, are scattered throughout the rooms of his sublime XIXᵉ century home. Also on display are objects hunted down at the Saint-Ouen flea market or in the USA, such as bistro chairs and a sublime disco ball dating from the 1940s.
There are also unique objects, such as Basquiat paintings, a piano carved from Steinway & Sons wood, boxing gloves from his mentor Mohamed Ali, and shoes belonging to James Brown. Of course, like any good artist, Lenny has his own music studio where he creates his next tracks, but the craziest room is in the boiler room where there is…. a hidden bar!
This two-storey private speakeasy has everything you need to party: a nice collection of spirits to make the best cocktails ever, and of course, a perfect sound system! As Lenny tells the AD store:
“My daughter throws a lot of parties here.”
Admit it, you’d like to be one of the guests too! In fact, the Hôtel Particulier has already been filmed for a video clip for his song TK421, which we’ll let you discover in pictures:
