Paris is definitely full of surprises! If you decide to take a stroll through the 9th arrondissement this weekend, you might just stumble upon the Hôtel de Serrigny. Located at the back of a courtyard, this century-old mansion is absolutely stunning! Converted into a municipal library in 2008, you’ll find children’s books, novels, and various other titles to devour on-site or in its small garden.
A magnificent library hidden in the 9th arrondissement

This magnificent mansion has had many lives, but the most memorable is undoubtedly its spectacular transformation in 2008. Formerly known as the Chaptal Library, it was renamed the Louise Walser-Gaillard Library in 2019, in honor of the deaf activist and poet. You’ll find a wide selection of books there, ranging from young adult fiction to crime novels and even a media library section.

Inside, you can admire a large modern room where you can read and study, as well as a magnificent Neo-Renaissance-style salon. The latter, adorned with wood paneling, is absolutely stunning. You can read your book there, bathed in light from the skylight, or continue reading in the garden… Indeed, this lovely library hides a charming green space in an inner courtyard. A unique spot, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, very pleasant when the weather is nice. We highly recommend stopping by— admission is free and open to everyone!
