“In May, do as you please,” as the saying goes! And with that in mind, we invite you to discover the kite festival just outside Paris. Located at Base 217 in Essonne, this colorful two-dayevent is sure to delight young and old alike!
A giant kite festival near Paris
From May 9 to 10, the entire sky over Essonne will come alive with color for a weekend. Hundreds of giant kites, some as long as fifty meters, will fill the sky and dance in the wind. It’s a magical spectacle to witness, sure to amaze visitors of all ages .

These immense kites will be flown by international professionals throughout the festival, who will bring to life a fabulous and fantastical menagerie through synchronized choreography. Giant kites shaped like whales, crocodiles, bears, and dragons will take part in this aerial ballet, both poetic and mesmerizing. Spaceships inspired by the Star Wars saga will also make an appearance in this breathtaking show!
Festival-goers can also purchase a kite on-site and take advantage of the winds at the base to try their hand at kite flying, as well as get an introduction to sand yachting. Children can get lost in the maze of wind tunnels, while older kids will learn more about the history of Japanese kites through an exhibition. Finally, among the activities on offer, children can make their own kite or hang their wish in the wish net.
