The Paris metro continues its transformation with the arrival of MF19 trains. A total of 410 of these trains will be ordered in 2019, and will be installed on certain lines over the next few years. In the first stage of this rollout, line 10 will be equipped as of next year. We tell you all about the new face of Parisian trains.
The future face of the Paris metro unveiled with MF19 trains
More connected, more comfortable and more reliable – in a nutshell, these are the new features of tomorrow’s metro. “To adapt to new requirements and offer a solution to ridership challenges“, Île-de-France Mobilités ordered new rolling stock from Alstom in 2019. A major modernization project for RATP, it should eventually replace half the current fleet of trains on the transport network.
The first line to be affected by this change, line 10, will welcome these new-generation trains in 2025. Often accused of being a little “old-fashioned”, it will be the first to be modernized. This will be followed by lines 7bis, 3bis, 13, 12, 8, 3 and 9 on a plan running until 2033. Each year, a new line will be involved, and the Paris metro will gradually undergo a metamorphosis.
For passengers, major changes are in store, particularly in terms of comfort. The new trains will feature “reversible air-conditioning, comfortable seats, natural lighting, USB ports and real-time passenger information screens”. In short, the MF19s will be equipped with the latest technology!
All that remains is to wait until next year to see the future face of the Paris metro take shape.
