Contemporary art always knows how to surprise us, but when it mixes an everyday object with a musical performance, the result is often memorable. Get ready for a visual and aural immersion, a fun and totally free break that proves that originality is priceless.
When flip-flops become musical instruments
In the architectural setting of the Lafayette Anticipations Foundation, Moroccan artist Meriem Bennani has imagined a work that defies convention. Forget classical instruments! Here, multicolored flip-flops take center stage to create a surprising mechanical symphony.
The installation is spectacular: hundreds of flip-flops are suspended from wooden structures and connected to a complex system of mechanisms and wires. Each flip-flop is activated by its own device, enabling it to strike a surface and produce a unique sound. It’s a veritable percussion concert in which wood, rubber and metal pipes combine to create a hypnotic work of sound.
What makes this work so fascinating is the idea that each flip-flop, with its own color and texture, has its own voice in this improvised orchestra. This is your chance to stop for a moment and observe the incessant movement, sustained rhythm and coordination of the ensemble.
