March 8 is International Women’s Rights Day. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the progress made in women’s rights, but also to celebrate all the women who matter in your life. You may not know it, but for over 50 years, the 6th arrondissement of Paris has been home to a bookstore that celebrates all women. In this store, you will find only books written by women, about women, or for women. A carefully curated, highly eclectic selection that is definitely worth discovering!
La Librairie des femmes: a unique feminist bookstore in Paris
It is the only bookstore that gives a voice exclusively to women. For 50 years, La Librairie des Femmes has been selecting a diverse range of books written by women with heart. You’ll find around 6,000 titles, including memoirs, novels, essays, humanities books, and children’s books. The selection is as rich as it is varied, allowing you to discover some real talent. A true safe space for women since the 1970s, people go there to find inspiration, to come across a book that speaks to them, but also to connect with fascinating, activist, and deeply committed women.

Regular meetings and discussions are organized to meet authors and inspiring women, learn new things, and get involved. In its store in the 6th arrondissement, you will find a gallery space where women regularly exhibit their art: Kate Millett, Michèle Knoblauch, Sonia Delaunay, Tina Modotti, Erica Lennard, and many others! A place that is more than necessary today, to be discovered throughout the year.
