Considered one of the coolest districts in eastern Paris, La Villette is an area in perpetual development. As proof of this, in spring 2026, the park will undergo a major extension, adding 15,000 square meters to its already colossal surface area. This expansion will focus on biodiversity and raising awareness of the living world.
Parc de la Villette to expand in 2026
In the heart of northeastern Paris, the Parc de la Villette has it all! Between culture, nature and music, there’s plenty to do in this giant green space in the heart of the 19th arrondissement. Here, you can enjoy a concert at the Philharmonie, an educational exhibition at the Cité des Sciences or the most beautiful light trail of the winter with Light Cycles. 2026 will open even more doors, with a major extension planned. From spring onwards, an additional 1.5 hectares will see the light of day in the heart of the park.
More concretely, the Halle Rouvray and its surroundings, hitherto abandoned, will be completely transformed with the aim of creating the new La Villette farm, a space for sharing and exchange. Here, visitors will be able to take part in numerous workshops, exhibitions, conferences and a myriad of farm activities. To the west of the park, the wasteland will be transformed into a “bird field”, comprising a wheat field, a clearing, an urban wood and a landscaped valley. Last but not least, the transformation will also include an extension of the existing Jardins Passagers into a genuine educational area, featuring a vegetable garden, greenhouse and sensory trail.
All in all, a fine addition to a space that already ticks all the boxes. All that’s left now is to wait until spring to discover it all!
