Do you have a driver’s license? If you have the famous “pink paper,” you’ll soon need to exchange it for the new format… In fact, the new driver’s license has been in use in France and Europe since 2013. Shaped like a credit card, it’s much more compact but also much more secure than the old version, which could be forged more easily. Here’s the deadline to finally complete this process!
When do you need to replace your driver’s license?
If you have the old version, you have until January 19, 2033, to replace it for free. However, the government is encouraging drivers to take a few minutes right now to start the process and avoid longer wait times later on.
How can you replace your driver’s license?
To obtain this new license, you must visit the website of the Agence nationale des titres sécurisés (National Agency for Secure Documents) and click on the button labeled “Damage, replacement of the three-panel folding license, or expiration.” Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to provide the requested documents, such as proof of address or a passport photo.
You can keep your old license until 2033, after which you’ll need to use only the new one.
What are the risks if you don’t make the switch?
You risk a fine of 11 euros for presenting the old license, which can be increased to 28 euros or even 135 euros if you fail to present any license to law enforcement.
