Just a few minutes from Colmar, Eguisheim, voted one of the most beautiful villages in the world, undergoes a metamorphosis every year in the run-up to Christmas, offering a magical interlude away from the big crowds. The 2025 edition of the Christmas market will be held from November 28 to December 30 in the medieval streets of the village.
Eguisheim Christmas market makes a comeback
After reviewing the Christmas markets in Colmar, Obernai and Nuremberg, one of the oldest in Europe, we’re ready for another trip east for the festive season. This time, we’re heading for one of France’s most beautiful villages!
The charming village of Eguisheim needs no introduction. With its half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and soft lights, the village is an enchanted destination. The atmosphere is even warmer during the festive season. Every year, the village’s Christmas market showcases some 30 artisans and designers, carefully selected for their handcrafted pieces and local know-how. You’ll come across carved decorations, wooden objects, candles and a whole host of items to put under the tree.
Take a stroll through the narrow streets of Eguisheim, and you’ll find an escapade of crafts, gastronomy and enchantment. Bredeles, gingerbread and mulled wine are the perfect accompaniment. Each stall invites you to extend your visit, and the medieval setting adds a touch of magic to the adventure. But beyond the market, the whole village comes alive. There are Nightwatchman rounds, treasure hunts through the alleyways, musical strolls, concerts and exhibitions.
This 2025 edition is not to be missed, offering the best of Eguisheim at this time of year: less hustle and bustle than in the larger towns of Alsace, but just as authentic an atmosphere in a setting typical of the region. And with the village only a few kilometers from Colmar, the day is easy to organize. Ç
