Located in northern Italy, an hour from Milan, the incredible Lake Como is known for its spectacular scenery, elegant villages, and historic villas built along the water’s edge. Long frequented by European aristocracy and later by industrial tycoons, it has established itself over time as one of the continent’s most prestigious destinations. In the spring, it will become the spectacular setting for an extraordinary competition.

An idyllic region for a wild race
Beyond its glamorous image, Lake Como also boasts a rich sporting tradition. Its unique geography, with deep waters surrounded by mountains, fostered the development of numerous water sports and outdoor activities from an early stage. The region is particularly famous for its connection to cycling through the Tour of Lombardy, but water sports are also very much a part of the local culture. Rowing has been practiced there since the 19th century, and sailing and regattas are also part of the local history. This nautical culture is still evident today in the iconic presence of Riva boats, those famous wooden motorboats that have become a symbol of Italian style since the 1950s.

It is against this backdrop thatthe 2026 E1 Lake Como GP is set to take place. Launched in 2024, this championship is the world’s first dedicated to all-electric boat racing. Often compared to the “Formula 1 of the seas,” the competition features futuristic boats capable of reaching nearly 50 knots, or about 93 km/h. The event is set for April 24 and 25 for the second round of the championship, taking place right in the heart of the prestigious lake.
The boats used, called RaceBirds, rely on foiling technology. These hydrodynamic wings allow the boat to lift above the water, reducing drag and limiting the waves produced. The result: high performance, but also a reduced environmental impact. Each team fields two pilots, a man and a woman, who take turns during the races. The races generally take place near the coast so that the public can easily follow the action.
The 2026 Lake Como GP is also drawing attention thanks to its team owners. Several international celebrities have invested in the championship and represent teams, including Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, and Steve Aoki. A dream lineup for an extraordinary race.

In this context, Lake Como appears to be the perfect setting to host this type of event. In a way, the E1 Series continues a nautical tradition already deeply rooted on the lake. Where aristocrats once tested experimental speedboats, today it is new-generation electric boats that are paving the way for a new form of competition on the water.
As the highlights of the2026 E1 Lake Como GP season, the races take place in iconic destinations, where the spectacle blends seamlessly into an exceptional natural and cultural setting. And as the series continues, we are already looking ahead to the next major stop on the calendar: the race scheduled for Monaco, another legendary destination where sport and prestige meet along the waterfront.
