Are you a stargazer? Keep your eyes on the sky! This week, a meteor shower will be clearly visible throughout France… The Draconids are making their big comeback and will reach their peak during the night of Thursday, October 8, to Friday, October 9. Here’s how to get the best view!
An Exceptional Meteor Shower
Although much less famous than the Perseids in August, the Draconid meteor shower is still well worth a look. Visible this week, from October 6 to 10, it is expected to peak during the night of October 8–9. And viewing conditions should be particularly favorable.
In fact, the moon will be virtually invisible that night, so its light won’t interfere with stargazing at all. You can even expect to see between 5 and 10 meteors per hour! As you know, to admire the stars, you need a dark environment! So avoid areas with artificial lighting from streetlamps and try your luck in more remote spots, such as the Fontainebleau Forest or Elancout Hill, which is the highest point in the Île-de-France region.
No equipment is needed! All you’ll need is a good vantage point, your eyes, and a little patience!
