Christmas is just around the corner! We love the decorations, which immediately make us happier (according to one study), but also the markets and decorated villages. If you too would like to bring a little Christmas magic into your home, here are a few ideas for DIY Christmas decorations. I promise, there’s something for everyone!
1 – An Advent calendar
An Advent calendar is always a great idea! For this do-it-yourself Christmas decoration, you won’t need much: some string, a few pouches (small jewelry bag, krafts paper bag etc) and that’s it! On Pinterest, you’ll find a few ideas for decorating it, adorning it with dried flowers, bits of branch from your tree… All that’s left to do is slip pretty gifts and treats of your choice inside.
2 – A snow globe
A snow globe isn’t all that complicated to make yourself. All you need is a jar with a good seal, some glitter to make the water sparkle, and a figurine to glue to the inside of the jar lid. A dot of strong glue is all you need to stick your figurine!
3 – A pretty candleholder
Want to customize a candle? Why not surround it with a cinnamon stick? It’s pretty and immediately festive! All you need are cinnamon sticks, which you can glue together with a strong glue dot. You can also wrap a string around it, surrounded by small Christmas ornaments, to reinforce the structure and embellish the whole!
4 – A sugar cane candlestick
In the same spirit as the candlestick, you can seal candy canes together to make a pretty Christmas candlestick. To be on the safe side, we recommend using an electric candle to avoid melting the sugar.
5 – A tree made of books
Are you a fan of reading? If you don’t want to buy a tree this year, we recommend piling up your best books to make an original tree. It’s sure to impress your guests this holiday season!
6 – A garlanded tree
You don’t need a real tree to add a festive atmosphere to your home. A little garland, a few nails to draw the tree on the wall, and you’re done! A warm, minimalist decor to brighten up the festive season.
7 – A customized carpet
Doesn’t a pretty Christmas rug sound nice? All you need is a simple doormat, some white acrylic paint, and a cutter if you want to cut out a specific shape. You can make a gingerbread house, a mushroom… Let your imagination run wild!
8 – A Christmas terrarium
To add a touch of style to your home or reception table, why not create a pretty Christmas terrarium? All you need is a bit of moss from the garden, a figurine, a small Christmas tree, a little LED garland or any other Christmas decoration, and you’re ready to go.
9 – Natural garlands for pretty DIY Christmas decorations
The decorating trend of the moment? Natural materials! To keep with the theme, creating your own Christmas garland using nothing but natural materials has never been easier: pine cones, fir branches, dried fruit slices, leaves of every color, eucalyptus branches… Treat yourself!
10 – Customized pine cones
Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make a room cozy. A few pine cones found in a park, some gold or silver paint and the magic is already working! Decorate your table for New Year’s Eve with almost nothing.
11 – A planter for the tree
Whether synthetic or natural, the Christmas tree is the star of the holiday season. While we think of decorating it with twinkling garlands and colorful balls, we often forget to adorn its base. Here, a kraft or fabric bag and a pretty ribbon will dress the tree up nicely!
12 – Pretty napkins for dinner
For a memorable Christmas decoration, every detail counts! How about decorating your napkins this year? All you need is some pretty string, a few fir branches or dried flowers! To make it even more beautiful, we recommend investing in fabric napkins.
13 – DIY mini Christmas wreaths
Here’s an original idea for your table setting! Arrange mini Christmas wreaths with guests’ names beautifully inscribed. You’ll need rosemary sprigs, string and a cardboard sheet. A “wow” effect guaranteed!
14 – Mini Christmas trees for a magical centerpiece
To make this superb decoration, you’ll need strong glue, pine cones, a little green paint (glittery if possible for added effect), a few corks and cardboard for the star. Once you’ve repainted the pine cone and cut out the star, all you have to do is assemble the tree !
15 – Christmas icicles for beautiful cocktails
It couldn’t be easier to make this pretty ephemeral decoration! All you need is an ice cube tray, some berries (cranberries, strawberries, berries, etc.), a mint leaf or a sprig of rosemary, and a little patience… Once the ice cubes have set, you can add them directly to cocktails or champagne buckets.
